Necklace of pearls
songseone | 09 február, 2010 03:34
Rowayton residents heard a pitch last night from the Norwalk Land Trust, which is asking the Sixth Taxing District to contribute $250,000 to its campaign to buy 2 acres of tiffany jewelry in Farm Creek. The district's commissioners said they favored making the donation with some of the proceeds from its $650,000 sale of an historic house on Wilson Avenue. The land trust's purchase would preserve the waterfront property, along with four adjacent acres already owned by the trust and 10 owned by the city. The land trust is seeking a conservation easement from the city so its 10 acres can never be developed.Residents heard the plans at last night's special meeting of the SixthTaxing District, along with other ideas for the proceeds from the house sale. They will vote on the proposals at the district's annual meeting tomorrow night.Pam Davis of the Norwalk Land Trust spoke of creating a refuge for wildlife and about the educational opportunities. The public also would have access to the 2 acres, with walking discount tiffany pendants and benches."If you string this all together, it's like a necklace of pearls," Davis said. The land trust can buy the 2 acres for $4.3 million from Rowayton resident Charles Schoendorf by June. Otherwise, the land could be developed with a few homes, according to commission members.Commission Chairman Edward Kweskin said if the district commits the money, it would expect to receive something, such as part ownership of the property, an easement or restrictive covenant. The district would spread the cost over two years.Kweskin compared the purchase of the property with investments the Sixth Taxing District has made in the past, such as buying Pinkney Park and Bailey Beach. He said the views from the land were unique."This will really knock your socks off," Kweskin said. "You do get a sense of serenity. That really is not overstated."Rowayton officials also presented plans for spending the rest of the proceeds of the Wilson Avenue house sale. The plan includes allocating $250,000 to reduce some of the district's $719,000 debt, incurred by the purchase of the house and the construction of a municipal parking lot.The commissioners proposed spending $150,000 to fix the deteriorated 450-foot sea wall along the Five Mile River, and $100,000 to fix up the historic buildings at Pinkney Park. The 19-century Pinkney House, which the Norwalk Historical Society is turning into a museum, needs renovations, including electrical upgrades, repair of water damage and installation of air conditioning and heating. A barn on the property needs a new roof, and all structures need to be painted."We feel this is one of the crown discount tiffany earrings of Rowayton's portfolio," Commissioner Michael Barbis said of the Pinkney House.Andrew Conroy, the district's treasurer, said it was a good idea to pay down some of the district's debt, but he urged spending the bulk on capital projects, because any new debt would have a higher interest rate.

Effects of Radiotransmitter Necklaces
songseone | 08 február, 2010 03:15
We used a paired treatment-control focal-animal design in 2004 to compare simultaneously the behaviors of transmittered owls to those of nontransmittered individuals. Owl capture and data collection occurred during 5-14 June 2004. For each site, we monitored 2 pairs of males simultaneously, each consisting of one transmittered and one control (tiffany jewelry) individual. The necklace transmitter consisted of an elasticized band with an elastic core and a webbed-fabric exterior sheath that limited the stretch of the elastic, a 12-cm wire whip antenna that emerged from the back, and transmitter electronics housed within a smooth, kidney-bean-sized nodule. When placed on an owl, the nodule was located in the front (like a necklace) and the antenna emerged from the nape. The weight of the transmitter was, thus, greatest at the owl's throat, which is an area that naturally experiences variable weights according to prey consumption (Amstrup 1980). However, to ensure that swallowing of large prey was not hindered, the necklace was placed on loosely enough that it could rotate completely around the bird's neck. Each necklace was knotted at a specific diameter (2.8 cm) before placement on the discount tiffany cufflinks, which was done by placing the necklace on a cardboard toilet-paper tube, placing the tube over the owl's head, and slipping the necklace off the tube and around the owl's neck. The band was knotted when the elastic was not fully extended, allowing some stretch to the necklace. The necklace's circumference was 11 cm, the size recommended by Holohil based upon previous burrowing owl telemetry studies (J. Edwards, Holohil Systems Ltd., personal communication). When the necklace was placed over the toilet-paper tube, it was at its maximum stretch, which should have allowed the necklace to be loose enough not to choke the owl and to move freely around the neck. For 3 days prior to capture (prenecklace period), we observed each owl to quantify normal activity budgets. On day 4, we captured the male owls at their burrows with balchatri traps, noose carpets, or bow nets (Hull and Bloom 2001). We morphometrically measured all captured owls, banded each with a size-4 United States Geologic Survey Bird Banding Laboratory (Patuxent, MD) band on one leg, and uniquely marked each with a red Acraft (Edmonton, AB, Canada) alpha-numeric coded aluminum band on the other leg. The combined weight of both bands was approximately 2 g. One male of each observation pairing also received a 4.55-g Holohil PD-2C discount tiffany money clips transmitter with a 24-week battery lifespan (Texas Tech University Animal Care and Use Committee permit no. 03079-11C to N. E. McIntyre). We did not place transmitters on the remainder of captured owls, although one of these owls was monitored as a treatment individual during the prenecklace period and the remainder served as controls. We used total minutes of observation, number of owlets, and time of day as covariates. For site comparisons, we used the sequential sums of squares (Type I). We analyzed data from 2004 and 2005 separately due to the change in methods for 2005.

The Nag Necklace
songseone | 04 február, 2010 04:13
One of the signs of getting older is the growing size of the daily pill tiffany jewelry.Sometimes it seems that the daily regimen runs against human nature. Indeed, medical researchers find that as many as one in three adults fails to take medicines as prescribed. For that forgetful third, engineers at Georgia Tech have developed a necklace that records the exact time and date when specially designed pills are swallowed. And if the patient forgets, the necklace can send a message to him-or to his doctor. The necklace, called MagneTrace by its developers, has an array of magnetic sensors clustered near the esophagus. When a pill containing an embedded signaling device is swallowed, it passes close enough to the sensors to be detected. The tiffany bangles sends the time, date, and other information to a wireless phone or personal digital assistant that keeps track of the dosage. The research team has yet to try the necklace on a human subject. Instead, they've built an artificial neck out of PVC pipe to see how well the system can detect a microscale magnet passing through it.As important as taking medicine on schedule is for treatment, it can be critically important in clinical drug trials. Participants often miss doses or take two pills to make up for ones they have skipped. Either tactic can alter the effect of a medicine and influence the results of a clinical trial.Currently, participants in drug trials record their intake in diaries, which aren't always reliable. By creating an exact record of pill taking, researchers hope that drug companies can get better results over a shorter amount of time and with fewer participants. The necklace, called MagneTrace by t tiffany rings developers, has an array of magnetic sensors clustered near the esophagus. French heritage influences necklace designs
songseone | 03 február, 2010 06:13
Riviera Sea Beads is the result of Francoise Long's creative yearning and eye for tiffany jewelry. Long, 52, designs and assembles jewelry using Japanese seed beads. Her collection includes necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings.Long's business attempts to fill a gap between costume jewelry and high-end adornments."I figure between the jewelry you can buy at a regular store like Wal-Mart and a jewelry store where you have expensive items, you have a gap," she says. "I can fit in this gap with these items."And it is something unique and I think people are looking for something unique and beautiful."The owner and artiste of Riviera Sea Beads uses many different techniques to make her works of art, such as crochet, chain rope, cabochon, peyote stitch and right- cheap cufflinks weaving. Items at Riviera Sea Beads cost $55 to $125. Long also creates custom pieces."The beauty of these techniques," Long says, "is for a special occasion I can match any kind of color regarding dress or outfit."A French native, Long grew up in Burgundy, which is roughly three hours from Paris. She says she met her American husband of almost 20 years, Michael, while he was stationed in France for work. In 1992, the Longs moved to America and settled briefly in Rochester. They relocated to North Carolina for three years before returning here.A former accountant, Long says she has worked many different jobs since coming to the United States. She has taught French, tried her hand at retail sales and even worked in a physician's office.Long's heritage plays a key role in her work."In the creative process of designing a new piece of jewelry, I am greatly influenced by my French cheap money clips and the atmospheric light and vivid colors of Provence, which I try to re-create in my work like a painter paints on canvas, by mixing the pearls, their different shades and sizes, and the precious natural land and sea materials I use in my jewelry," Long writes on her Web site.Seed beads, roughly 1.5 millimeters to 3 millimeters in diameter, are prominent in Riviera Sea Beads' products. Long uses a magnifying glass when stitching the beads. Her creations also include Swarovski crystals, glass, fossils and other unusual items as pendants for her necklaces.Riviera Sea Beads does not currently have a showroom. But an online gallery at its Web site offers the pieces for sale.Internet sales have yet to pick up pace, but Long is hopeful.

The campaign also launched a microsite where customers can purchase the necklace, distributed an e-mail newsletter, and is targeting blogs in the Hispanic market. "Un fortunately, Hispanics have the highest college drop-out rate of any racial group, " said Gaby Alban, the Hispanic spokesperson for Payless, who noted that the target audience is those who might be sensitive about needing help to attend and graduate from college."The number one dream for Hispanics is a college education for their cheap necklaces," he added. "We're really wanting to tug on the heartstrings of those that are here and believing in that, and it's something they want to support."The necklaces, available since September 1 , cost $4 and display the phrase "Believe/Creer, Dream/ Soñar, and Inspire/Inspirar." The phrase is also the message of the PR campaign surrounding Hispanic Heritage Month, which starts September 15, to coincide with the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries."The words are so important to us, " Alban said. "It's about motivating and inspiring people to achieve their goals, and for us, it's really something that we're proud to help HSF."The effort is more than just a oneoff tiffany and co, Alban explained. Not only does it fit in with Payless' overall Hispanic outreach, but it also works with the company's overall goals."The same way that we're democratizing fashion and bringing the best of the runway and of unique designer collections to people at great price points," Alban said, "we're helping the community really be able to get behind such an important cause and participate in this."Scheherazade Daneshkhu, Paris correspondent, gets exclusive access to Chanel's design team and workshop to witness the creation of a piece of fine jewellery for the Paris Biennale des Antiquaires, the collectors' antiques and jewellery fair. She talks to the head of design about Coco Chanel, the inspiration behind the "Haute Couture" necklace and the artisans in the workshop about the practical process of putting the piece together in time for the final show.

Necklace shoes seized from Cooper home
songseone | 01 február, 2010 04:26
Police again searched the home of Bradley Cooper this week, days after he was
charged with murdering his wife, Nancy, in July.
Cary Detective J.A. Young
sought a judge's permission to return to the Coopers' Lochmere subdivision home
this tiffany jewelry to

detective found in the couple's garage. Bradley Cooper had told detectives that
his wife had gone out for a run around 7 a.m. the day she disappeared.Nancy
Cooper was found strangled to death July 14, her body dumped near an unfinished
subdivision in Cary. On Monday, a grand jury charged her husband, Bradley
Cooper, 35, with first-degree murder.According to a search warrant returned
Friday, police recovered four pairs of footwear from the home this week but did
not specify what kind. They also secured a diamond pendant necklace that Nancy
Cooper's friends and family say she wore everywhere. Hannah Pritchard, Nancy's
friend, told a judge during a custody hearing this month that she'd never seen
Nancy without it. Police said they've collected silver
bracelets of Nancy Cooper wearing
the necklace while swimming at the beach.Brad Cooper had told police, according
to the warrant, that the pendant was in his possession. It has now been secured
as evidence in Nancy's murder.Police also seized additional jewelry, phones,
compact discs and receipts.
In 1974, Watergate shocks the political system.
Patty Hearst is kidnapped by the SLA. "The Sting" wins Best Picture. And Elsa
Peretti designs Diamonds by the Yard for Tiffany & Co., a casual combination
of chain interrupted by bezel-set diamonds that is an instant classic. In 1996,
the trend returns with a twist: The "Tin Cup" necklace, named after the movie it
starred in, replaces the diamonds with pearls and the chain with silk cord and
another classic is born. Both of these styles are station
silver
cufflinks-a necklace "track," dotted
with "stations" at intervals around the neck. Its a simple concept but the
fashion mileage has proved endless. And in 2008, station necklaces are once
again important. Many new styles feature long lengths, 36 inches or even more.
Stations are likely to be colorful gemstones or gold elements as well as
diamonds and pearls. Links in different sizes are also used as stations. Some
styles even reverse the tin cup concept, studding a strand of seed pearls with
gold elements. All these necklaces are perfect for layering. Try inviting
customers to play dress up, layering necklaces they already own with new station
styles or the same style in a different length. They are sure to soon arrive at
the next station for their jewelry wardrobe.

Some players put faith in necklaces
songseone | 30 január, 2010 04:24
Ryan Howard wears one. So does Jimmy Rollins. And Cliff Lee was rocking one
when he pitched his masterpiece in Game 1.Those choker-style tiffany jewelry they've added
to their standard-issue red and white pinstripes aren't just any old
accessory.Could it be that accessorizing has pumped up their mojo this
season?
The necklaces are specially treated Aqua-Titanium that, according to
the Major League Baseball Web site, has the ability to regulate the body's
natural electric currents and helps with muscle relaxation, pain relief, and
fatigue. All this, the site says, prevents injury. The
silver
earrings apparently have plenty of
believers -- or, at least, admirers. Dozens of major-league players have been
wearing them this year. And they've become even more noticed in the World Series
as both teams' star players have them.
The specially treated titanium is the
brainchild of Yoshihiro Hirata, CEO of Phiten, a 20-year-old company based in
Japan. Hirata started out making the titanium as beads.
The necklaces are
worn in Europe and Japan by professional athletes, from marathon runners to
tennis players. Several years ago, a group of American baseball players who were
in Japan noticed Japanese athletes sporting the necklaces."The players brought
the necklaces home with them," said Scott McDonald, a spokesman for Phiten, "and
the trend started from there."
Two years ago, Major League Baseball entered
into a licensing agreement with Phiten, McDonald said. Each of the 30
major-league teams has color-coordinated versions of the necklaces (available
for $39.99 at www.MLB.com). Phiten also makes T-shirts, bracelets, socks,
wristbands, and silver key
rings.
The idea of using metals
to cure ailments goes back to ancient times. The belief that titanium regulates
energy is like the notion that copper eases arthritis. But while some players
report that the necklaces make them feel stronger, more relaxed, and a little
less stressed-out, doctors aren't quick to give a thumbs-up. In other words,
don't think wearing one will make you pitch like Cliff Lee.

Bangle:BMW priest of design
songseone | 29 január, 2010 03:55
But that expression is about the only stateside tiffany jewelry this
transplanted Midwesterner has put on a German automotive monolith.Bangle, 40,
may have an American-built brain, but his heart belongs to BMW.``With each car
we ask, `Are we furthering the respect this marque has?' '' Bangle says. ``I
just hope I add value without running roughshod over those principles.''Four
years into his tenure as ``football coach, neighbor, priest and drill sergeant''
to dozens of in-house BMW designers, his stewardship is proving a success. But
Bangle refuses to take the praise. And BMW public relations officers were
concerned that Bangle not be portrayed as a star, but rather a part of the
team.
Bangle seconds that motion. Pressed to reflect on his role, the former
divinity student offers this explanation.``I'm sure you'd agree that
Christianity is pretty much a sewed-up deal. They even have a guidebook. But in
its history, the role of individuals, from Martin Luther to a parish priest, is
key,'' he says, smiling.``Now, although I have to be a high priest of the design
philosophy of this company, it doesn't mean that I'm any less me. If I didn't
identify with BMW personally, I wouldn't have lasted a week in this
cheap
necklaces.''The truth is that
Bangle is a fascinating choice to lead design for such a conservative
institution.
Born in Ravenna, Ohio, he couldn't have dreamed that, at 36,
he'd be tapped to head design for BMW.His route began at the Art Center College
of Design in Pasadena, Calif., which trained dozens of auto designers around the
world, including Grant Larson (Porsche), Peter Barrett Davis (Fiat) and David
Robb (BMW).Bangle was among a generation of designers who headed immediately for
Europe. He began at Opel, GM's European arm, designing interiors. He quickly
stood out.``Everyone still remembers the Opel Junior (Bangle's 1983
prototype),'' says Tom Matano, design chief at Mazda and the man behind the
Miata. ``It was totally innovative, totally modular, with seats like sleeping
bags and a sound system that could be pulled out like a
tiffany and
co.''
For Bangle, it boils
down to a simple mission: doing his part to cut down on visual pollution.``Cars
today are the largest piece of man-made art that most people ever come into
contact with,'' he says. ``They're not machine produced, they're machine
reproduced. A human hand makes every surface. For me, cars are
sculpture.''Sculpture that, for Bangle, has powerful overtones.``As we approach
the millennium, we realize the machine age has not made life easier. So there is
a new appreciation for things of beauty,'' he says. ``It's about more than
getting from point A to point B, it's about touching the soul of the customer.
That's where I'd like to see BMW go.''

With Wispy Uncertainties
songseone | 28 január, 2010 04:06
Technology makes it possible for Susanna Hoffs to be a lead singer. A
microphone gives heft to her wispy voice; multiple takes in the studio perfect
her high tiffany jewelry
and keep her in tune. But her songs are worth the effort.
Since the 1980's,
when she was the lead singer on hits by the Bangles, and with two albums on her
own in the 90's, she has condensed the joys and tensions of romance into songs
that are unabashed throwbacks to the 60's: folk-rock with flashes of the
Beatles. And with her fragile but clear voice she sounds believable, whether
she's giving in to desire or trying to tear herself away.
Longtime Bangles
fans packed the Fez for a show by Ms. Hoffs and her
silver
necklaces on Tuesday night, and they
cheered when she announced that the Bangles would reunite and record a new album
in the spring. Ms. Hoffs's new songs haven't changed style. They still outline a
lover's uncertainties in concise lyrics -- ''so many reasons to smile but I am
happy to cry'' -- and symmetrical phrases that sound preordained.
As Ms.
Hoffs strummed an acoustic guitar, her band approached the songs like a jam
band, putting the instrumental hooks in place but not flaunting them. When she
turned to Bangles songs, the difference was clear; the older songs were already
sleek pop mechanisms with every detail working toward catchiness. The newer
songs were still tentative, awaiting the studio treatment that would complete
them. JON PARELES

The Bangles
songseone | 27 január, 2010 03:43
Band: Susannah Hoffs, Debbi Peterson, Vicki Peterson, Michael Steele, Greg
Hilfman.
It's easy to be cynical when bands tiffany jewelry-- the only
sound that animates many of them is the ring of a cash register. But at the
House of Blues, the reformed Bangles were onto something different: If anything,
they sound more like a band today then they did during the mid-1980s.
Yes,
time, maturity and so-so solo projects made them more likely to play nice in the
sandbox, but their show was the work of a revived band; they haven't named their
upcoming Koch album (due in stores Sept. 23) "Doll Revolution" for
nothing.
It's not so much that tiffany
earrings changed -- songs such
as "Manic Monday" and "Walk Like an Egyptian" retain their sunny radiance, and
the members still have a youthful appeal. More impressive is how the new
material seamlessly updates their classic sound.
Vicki Peterson's "Single by
Choice" is a rangy declaration of independence and Debbie's "Ride the Ride,"
while not as explosive as the version on the album, still enthralls. They also
smartly rearrange the older tunes, stripping down "If She Knew What She Wants"
into a wary tiffany key
rings.
The nearly 90-minute show
was something of a round robin, with the spotlight rotating among the four
singers; the band has become a stronger whole while giving each member a chance
to shine.
Susannah Hoffs favors swelling pop confections; Vicki Peterson
brings flinty, country-inflected pop to the mix; her sister Debbi comes to the
fore on classic '60s psychedelia; and Michael Steele is partial to rock
struts.
The result felt like the performance of a band that still has life
left in it.

Bangle moved to exec role
songseone | 26 január, 2010 03:55
Firing tiffany jewelry
was not a viable option because the company has defended him so fiercely in the
face of increasingly harsh criticism over his styling direction, the sources
pointed out. That would have been an unacceptable admission of failure, they
said.
"Despite their public support, the company had come to the conclusion
that something had to be done" to defuse the criticism, said a source at another
automaker who had inside knowledge of the debate.
"Even though sales weren't
a problem, they felt the constant criticism was beginning to undermine the brand
and the whole aura of infallibility that is so important to them," the source
said. "But they couldn't fire Chris because this would have been an admission
that the critics were right and things really were screwed up. This way they get
to save some face."
The source said he was approached late last year to sound
out his potential interest in replacing Bangle as head of BMW brand design. He
rejected the approach, he said, because he considered the job to be
unworkable.
Another designer and close associate of
silver
bracelets said the decision to take
Bangle out of the styling studio - and away from the heat - was long
overdue.
"The only question I have is, 'What took them so long?'" he said.
"Chris is a truly talented guy, but they've been getting hammered now for three
years because of him. They had to do something."
Few car designers have
generated as much sturm und drang as Bangle. Three years after the launch of the
redesigned flagship 7 series unleashed a torrent of criticism because of its
break-the-mold styling, BMW loyalists continue to call for Bangle's
head.
Bangle, an American and a former chief of silver
cufflinks design, has headed BMW's
styling department for more than a decade. In that time he has been responsible
for redesigns of the 3,5 and 7 series. He also supervised the creation of the X5
and X3 SUVs, the forthcoming 1 series and the 6 series coupe and
convertible.
But nothing has touched a nerve the way the 7 series redesign
did. Billed by Bangle as the beginning of a necessary overhaul of BMW styling,
it featured a straight belt-line that wrapped around onto the trunk. This
created a wedge-like protrusion widely referred to as a "Bangle-butt."

The Return of Bangles-Beads and Kitsch
songseone | 23 január, 2010 03:43
It takes a special wizardry to ride the wild waves of the score of ''Kismet.''
Based on works by the 19th-century Russian tiffany jewelry Alexander
Borodin (including his opera ''Prince Igor''), the songs of this exotic Broadway
curiosity from 1953 swell, swirl, crash and trickle in patterns that your
average musical-comedy performer is hardly used to surfing. And do you think
it's easy to make light comic and romantic hay from a word like ''Rahadlakum''
(the title of a second-act lust duet), while dressed like an extra from ''Sinbad
the Sailor''?
Fortunately, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Marin Mazzie, the
resourceful stars of this silver money
clips of ''Kismet,'' which opened
this season's Encores! series of American musicals in concert at City Center,
have the lungs, the presence and the plain old chutzpah to stay afloat in the
show's churning seas. Paired in a full-length musical for the first time since
they played the merrily dueling divas in the 1999 Broadway revival of ''Kiss Me,
Kate,'' Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Mazzie emerge unbowed from the vicissitudes of
''Kismet,'' with nary a scratch in their armored charisma.
Pretty much
everyone else involved with this production -- with the exception of the
redoubtable Paul Gemignani, who this season replaces Rob Fisher as the Encores!
musical director, and the orchestra -- appears to have been reduced to treading
water and praying for rescue. With a book by Charles Lederer and Luther Davis
(based on a teeth-gnasher of a melodrama from 1911 by Edward Knoblock), and
those ripe Borodin tunes translated into Broadwayese by Robert Wright and George
Forrest, ''Kismet'' is a tough nut to crack open for contemporary audiences --
or to stay in the mood of things, let's make it a tough fig to
peel.
''Kismet,'' which runs through tomorrow at City Center, is one of the
silver pendants
shotgun marriages of high and low culture to
have been conducted on the stages of Broadway, a sort of theatrical equivalent
of the old ''Silly Symphonies'' cartoons. Wright and Forrest, who had struck it
big by mining the compositions of Edvard Grieg for ''Song of Norway'' in 1944,
performed similar duties with Borodin, transforming music from the Polovtsian
dances in ''Prince Igor'' and the Nocturne, respectively, into the
Eisenhower-era chart toppers ''Stranger in Paradise'' and ''And This Is My
Beloved.''
But if the melodies came from the Metropolitan Opera House, the
mise-en-scene came from Minsky's. ''Kismet,'' which opened (some say mercifully)
during a newspaper strike in December 1953, groaned with dopey rhymes (Omar
Khayyam is among the characters), puns and double-entendres and featured lots of
undulating, flesh-flashing harem girls to sustain the interest of those
less-than-eager husbands who had been dragged to the theater from the office.
When the reviews finally appeared, Brooks Atkinson (of The New York Times), for
one, was not exactly dazzled. But by that time, ''Kismet'' had established its
mass appeal and ran for 583 performances.
